Suspect arrested for tax evasion

A 43-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 26 February 2024.

According to spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo, he will be facing a charge of contravening the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011.

“The suspect was served with court summons on Monday 8 January 2024. A preliminary probe by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) uncovered the suspects’ alleged tax evasion where he failed to register a company for Value Added Tax (VAT) which resulted in SARS losing more than one million rand (R1 000 000). The incident took place over the period between 2020 and 2021,” said Singo.

He added that the matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Bloemfontein culminating in the summons being served.
